STUDY HABITS AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT:
For students with ADHD and/or other learning disabilities, doing homework or studying for a test can be very challenging. When to begin the task, how to begin, where to begin, or finding the materials for the homework or project can be difficult and frustrating.  During the sessions, the student and myself will work together to discover what works well with the student in terms of routines, organizing notes, belongings, and workspace both in school and at home. This is not a tutoring session but I find it more meaning for the student to help reshaping their study habits and skills while working on a math homework or a science project.

DECODING SKILLS DEVELOPMENT:
What is the best way to teach reading? In 2000, the National Reading Panel released its in-depth review of research on this topic. NRP identified five essential elements of effective reading instruction commonly known as the "Five Pillars:" Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. During the 1-on-1 tutorial, tutees or students will learn how to decode or figure out words through a direct, multi-sensory and systematic instruction. The aim of decoding instruction is automaticity. When Students read fluently, they can focus more on understanding what they are reading. Sessions will include decoding and word study, sight word recognition, oral expressive language development and comprehension.

HOMEWORK IN ALL SUBJECT AREAS (K-8th):
I've always enjoyed working with students. I helped individual or siblings work on their homework or school projects. Students, especially young ones, sometime needed extra help and attention when doing their homework. I work in collaboration with the student's school teacher in identifying student needs and strategies that can be used both at home and in school. The goal of my tutorial is not only to answer the homework correctly but to help students plan their study time at home.
